VERANDAH REACHES 50 PERCENT SOLD OUT MARKFORT MYERS, Fla. (May 15, 2008) – Verandah, the 1,456-acre community being developed by Bonita Bay Group along a 1.75-mile stretch of the Orange River in Fort Myers, recently sold its 835th home, pushing Verandah’s total to the halfway mark since the community opened for sales in February 2003.
Verandah was designed in harmony with the existing landscape. Bonita Bay Group, which acquired the property in 1999, spent years working and reworking the community’s site plan to fit around existing trees. It spent hundreds of hours weaving neighborhoods, infrastructure and amenities into the site to impact as few trees as possible. Those that were ultimately affected were relocated – a process that took a year. The company also restored a flow way that had been impacted by prior agricultural use, required all single-family model homes be built as green homes and was named
Verandah now serves as a role model for green development – reiterated by several state and national environmental awards. The community has received the Florida Association of Realtor’s 2006 Environmental (ENVY) Award; the Council for Sustainable Florida’s 2007 Best Practices Award for green building, the Florida Urban Forestry Council’s Trees Florida 2007 Award, and Project EverGreen’s Because Green Matters Award.
